The 80’s was certainly an era of top caliber softball in Alberta and the Lloydminster Midget Girls Blues were one of the top performing teams. With many good role models to follow in the Junior and Senior ranks, the Midget Blues proved they could compete with any team across Canada and the United States. The Midget Blues were a team that had superb depth at the pitching position and were very strong defensively down the middle. But more than just being athletically talented and being great ball players, the confidence that this team had when they stepped on the field was what separated them from other teams.

After going undefeated throughout the round-robin and winning the first game of the elimination round, the ‘Blues’ suffered their first defeat in the ‘A’-final, losing 6-4 to B.C. The ‘Blues’ then defeated B.C. 5-3 in the next game and captured the 1985 Canadian Midget Girls Softball title with a 12 inning, 7-5 win over B.C. in the deciding game of the A-B final in Burlington, Ontario.

The ‘Blues’ astonishingly had seven (7) Bantam age players on this team. This would only make the 1986 team even stronger with 13 returning players. At the 1986 Provincial Championship in Edmonton, the ‘Blues’ defeated the Calgary Griffins 8-1 in the ‘A-B’ final.
As Defending Champions and the Host team, the ‘Blues’ defeated North Delta, B.C. 5-1 in the final in Lloydminster, AB. The ‘Blues’ won their second consecutive Canadian Midget Girls Fast Pitch Championship winning seven (7) consecutive games outscoring their opponents 41-9 with clutch hitting, sparking defensive play and fierce pitching.

The Lloydminster Midget Blues Fast Pitch team experienced tremendous success in the mid-1980’s in Alberta and Canada capturing consecutive Canadian Softball Championships in 1985 and 1986. This team made both the City of Lloydminster and Softball Alberta proud of their outstanding accomplishment.
